- Genome Stability, Analysis of Mutational Patterns
게놈 및 바이오인포매틱스
My lab has two focus areas:
We use the small nematode C. elegans as a model system to understand basic biological questions, related to genome stability, apoptosis, and meiosis. More than half of all C. elegans genes are conserved in humans, and our system benefits from the ease of maintenance, a short generation time of 3 days, the transparency of the nematode, and advanced forward and reverse genetic approaches, all allowing for easy experimentation. Key insights leading to fundamental biological principles and medical applications such as RNAi, miRNAs, apoptosis and whole genome sequencing were first worked out in C. elegans. We are also interested in so called mutational signatures which arise when cells are exposed to DNA damaging agents such as environmental toxins and cancer chemotherapeutic agents. We use C. elegans and human cells for our work. The analysis of mutational patterns provides information about primary mutagenic events and DNA repair pathways that mend DNA damage, and also helps to better understand how chemotherapeutic agents work.
