UNIST Announces the Official Launch of UNIST Smart Healthcare Research Center

Research on digital healthcare with a particular focus on the management of occupational accidents and illnesses, will begin in earnest in the Ulsan region.

On March 26, UNIST held a ceremony to mark the official launch of the UNIST Smart Healthcare Research Center. On this day, the center also held a forum to discuss some of the exciting current innovations in digital healthcare and to announce the start of research and development on work-related medical rehabilitation, which includes diagnostic procedures to identify patients with specific occupational problems.

The center has been launched with the aim of carrying out breakthrough research on rehabilitation, mobile diagnostics, and digital health research with a particular focus on work-related injuries and illnesses, as well as fostering professional manpower. Headed by Professor Hyung Joon Cho (Department of Biomedical Engineering, UNIST), the center will be participated by 15 professors in related disciplines.

The new center will be conducting various research in the following areas: ▲ Rehabilitation robots, ▲ Advanced sensor-based virtual reality (VR), and ▲ ICT/AI-based medical diagnostic systems. In addition, the center plans to construct the infrastructure that can demonstrate and experience these technologies.

The workshop has been attended by researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the Kosin University, and UNIST.

The grand opening ceremony was held in the order of presentation on progress report, congratulatory remarks, and signboard-hanging ceremony. It has been attended by UNIST President Yong Hoon Lee, Vice Mayor Wong-kyung Cho of Ulsan Metropolitan City, Dean Woonggyu Jung (Department of Biomedical Engineering, UNIST), and other key officials from Kosin University and the UNIST Smart Healthcare Research Center.
